Scam checker: is this message or link a scam?
ScamCheck reads English as well as French. Paste the message or link you received: the checker looks for the tricks scammers use across Africa and worldwide — a code they ask you to send back, a fee to pay before you receive anything, a fake parcel, a prize you never entered, a website that imitates a bank, M-Pesa, MTN MoMo, PayPal or Amazon. Results and advice are displayed in French; the analysis itself understands both languages.
Collez le message ou le lien suspect
Ne saisissez jamais un mot de passe, un code reçu par SMS ou un numéro de carte complet.
What the checker looks for
- requests for an OTP, PIN, password, BVN, card details or wallet recovery phrase — while ignoring genuine messages that simply give you a code;
- advance-fee fraud (“419”), inheritance and next-of-kin stories, fake lotteries and DV lottery offers;
- “sent to you by mistake” mobile money reversals and full USSD transfer codes;
- fake job offers, loans, investment and crypto schemes, gift card payments, sextortion threats;
- lookalike websites, URL shorteners, free hosting and phishing databases queried in real time.
Red flags
- Nobody legitimate will ever ask you to send back a code you received by SMS.
- Paying a fee to receive money, a prize, a parcel or a job is always the scam.
- Pressure and secrecy (“act now”, “tell no one”) are there to stop you checking.

Your questions
Is ScamCheck free?
Yes. It is free, requires no account and works for messages from any country.
Is my message shared with anyone?
No. The text and screenshot are analysed without being sent to third parties. To check a link, only the cleaned address (or just the domain name) is sent to the security databases named in the form.
Does a low risk result mean the message is safe?
No. It means no known scam technique was detected. Always confirm with the organisation through a contact you already trust.
Already paid or shared a code?
First steps and verified official contacts to report a scam (page in French).
