High-Speed and High-Brightness 850 and 1060 nm VCSEL Arrays for Free-space Optical Communication

Jian-Wei Tung, Po-Jui Lai, Zhe-Wei Hsu, Jia-Liang Yen et autres

Vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) arrays featuring high-speed and exceptional brightness are critical for minimizing diffraction loss on the receiver side of optical wireless communication (OWC) channels, especially in 6G and satellite communications. Compared with their edge emitting counterpart, such as DFB lasers, …

Miniaturized VCSEL Array With Ring-Shaped Zn-Diffusion Apertures for High-Speed and High-Brightness Performances

Jian-Wei Tung, Zhe-Wei Hsu, Po-Jui Lai, Jin Wei Shi

Miniaturized$7 \times 7$VCSEL arrays with ring-shaped Zn-diffusion apertures are demonstrated to suppress spatial-holeburning under high-brightness output. State-of-the-art performances in terms of wide bandwidth (22 GHz), high output power$(160 ~\text{mW})$and high brightness$\left(73 \text{KWcm}^{-2} \text{sr}^{-1}\right)$can be simultaneously achieved for 32 Gbps on-off keying error-free …

Ultrafast single-mode Zn-diffusion VCSELs at the 850 nm wavelength for energy-efficient linking via graded-index single-mode fiber transmission

Zhe-Wei Hsu, Jian-Wei Tung, C.-J. Wang, Hao Dong et autres

The pursuit of more energy-efficient optical linking at higher data rates is an ongoing goal to ensure rapid developments in AI technology. A breakdown of the total energy consumption in the modern 400 and 800 Gbit/s transceiver modules shows that the largest …

Strong Bandwidth Enhancement of Zn-Diffusion Single-Mode 850 nm VCSEL Transmission over Graded-Index Single-Mode Fiber

Zhe-Wei Hsu, Xin Chen, Jian-Wei Tung, Chia-Hsuan Wang et autres

Strong O-E bandwidth enhancement (26 to 31GHz) of single-mode 850nm Zn-diffusion VCSEL via 1km graded-index single-mode fiber transmission is demonstrated. Error-free 48Gbit/sec transmission is achieved under low bias current as 4 mA without using equalizers.

Suppression of Spatial Hole Burning Effect in Single-Mode VCSEL by Using Zn-Diffusion Optical Aperture

Cheng-Wei Lin, Zhe-Wei Hsu, Jian-Wei Tung, Jin‐Wei Shi

By optimizing the structure of single-mode VCSEL with Zn-diffusion apertures inside, we can effectively suppress the spatial-hole-burning effect and achieve a record-high SM output power of 16 mW, heavy damping E-O frequency response, and a wide 3-dB bandwidth as 18 GHz for …

Single-Mode VCSELs With Zn-Diffusion Apertures for Applications in Co-Packaged Optics Systems

Cheng-Wei Lin, Zhe-Wei Hsu, Jian-Wei Tung, Xin Chen et autres

High-speed vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) with high single-mode (SM) output power and strong immunity to optical feedback play a vital role in further improving the package density in co-packaged optics (CPO) systems. Here, by optimizing the structure of VCSEL cavities with Zn-diffusion …

Application of Instantaneous Cantilever Frequency Fluctuation in Atomic Force Microscope Control Loop

Zhe-Wei Hsu, Peter I-Tsyuen Chang

Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) systems are used for scanning samples at the nano-meter size, including semiconductor products, biological cellular compounds and many others. AFM systems generally probes the height of its sample surface profile, through the van der Waals force interaction between …
