Adaptive Cu Reconstruction in Heterostructure Drives High‐Rate Nitrate‐to‐Ammonia Conversion

Chunyu Yuan, Saikat Bolar, Yongzheng Zhang, Akitaka Ito et autres

ABSTRACT Dynamic structural and phase evolution commonly occur during electrochemical nitrate (NO 3 − ) reduction, leading to the formation of catalytically favorable active phases, particularly in mixed‐valence metal species. However, large overpotentials and the accumulation of undesired byproducts still severely limit …

Front Cover: Evaluation of the Color Changing of Flux‐Synthesized Beryl by Ni Doping Using CIE1976 Color Parameters (Eur. J. Inorg. Chem. 13/2026)

Yusei Sonobe, Takahiko Morisaki, Risa Utumi, Ryosuke Kumamoto et autres

The Front Cover illustrates flux-synthesized Ni-doped beryl crystals. Among the synthesized samples, the most prominent optical characteristic of Ni-beryl is its pronounced dichroism, appearing as moss green or deep yellow when viewed in the m-plane or c-plane, respectively. More information can be …

Evaluation of the Color Changing of Flux‐Synthesized Beryl by Ni Doping Using CIE1976 Color Parameters

Yusei Sonobe, Takahiko Morisaki, Risa Utumi, Ryosuke Kumamoto et autres

Rough beryl contains various transition metal species owing to its geological formation conditions, and their concentrations largely determine the resulting crystal's color—a key physical property that strongly influences gemstone value. However, quantitative relationships between beryl crystal color and concentration of first‐row transition …

Sulfur‐Stabilized High Entropy Oxysulfides Enable Efficient CC Bond Cleavage in Ethylene Glycol Electrooxidation for Sustainable Plastic Upcycling to Formate

Saikat Bolar, Akitaka Ito, Chunyu Yuan, Meiyi Wang et autres

The conversion of plastic waste into value‐added chemicals coupled with energy‐efficient H 2 production is a sustainable strategy for addressing environmental and energy challenges, for example, the selective electrooxidation of polyethylene terephthalate (PET)‐derived ethylene glycol (EG) to C1 products via CC bond …

Synthesis of N ‐Acylisoindolinones, Phthalide, and a Benzo[ c ]furan by an Intramolecular Cannizzaro Reaction

Nana Hatayama, Ryoji Matsushima, Kazuto Umezu, Akitaka Ito et autres

The formyl group of o ‐phthalaldehyde ( OPA ) is highly reactive and can accept nucleophilic attacks from various reagents including less nucleophilic amides. Reactions of OPA with amides in the presence of acetic anhydride proceeds efficiently to afford the corresponding N …

Potassium-ion-responsive chiral supramolecular hydrogels exhibiting long-range chirality transfer from d - or l -alanine to achiral frameworks

Atsuna Kondo, Hisako Sato, Akitaka Ito, Yoshiro Kondo et autres

Vibrational circular dichroism reveals supramolecular chirality in hydrated K + -responsive hydrogels. Combined with circular dichroism, it shows that self-assembly mediates long-range chirality transfer from d - or l -alanine to an achiral framework.

Halogen bonds as a design element for supramolecular hydrogels: structure–gelation correlations in glycosylated N -methylhalogenomaleimide amphiphiles

Kotoyo Yamashita, Akitaka Ito, Masayuki Izumi, Rika Ochi

-methylhalogenomaleimide amphiphiles. Bromine provides favourable intermolecular cohesion, yielding efficient and thermally robust hydrogels. Single-crystal X-ray analysis suggests cooperative hydrogen-bonding networks along with short Br⋯Br contacts, indicating that halogen bonds may serve as a tunable design element for functional soft materials.

Regioselective Modification Distinguishing Slight Difference between Two C–Br Bonds in 1,7-Dibromonaphthalene and Synthesis of Unsymmetric Naphthalene Derivatives

Kento Iwai, Nana Hatayama, Akitaka Ito, Nagatoshi Nishiwaki

Dibromonaphthalenes are valuable building blocks in organic synthesis; however, achieving discrimination between the α- and β-bromo groups remains a challenge. In this study, we demonstrated the regioselective conversion of the bromo group in 1,7-dibromonaphthalene with high efficiency. Transition metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions with …

Intense Absorption of Phosphorescent Biscyclometalated Ir(III) Complex with Triarylborane‐Bound 2,2′–Bipyridine Ligand

Ryo Fukumoto, Eri Sakuda, Kenichiro Omoto, Akitaka Ito et autres

A monocationic biscyclometalated Ir(III) complex with triarylborane‐bound 2,2′–bipyridine was designed and synthesized, and its photophysical properties are investigated. The triarylborane–Ir(III) complex exhibits significantly enhanced absorption in the 300–400 nm region compared to pristine biscyclometalated Ir(III) complexes, attributed to contributions from π(aryl)–p(B) charge …
