In periodontal examinations, precise probing force and effective stabilization of the probe are critical skills for practitioners. The ability to insert the probe with an appropriate force highlights the importance of comprehensive skill training. To address this need, we designed and developed a probing simulator integrated with sensors capable of providing real-time feedback on both probing force and resting forces. The proposed simulator comprises two load cells and components mimicking the bottom of alveolar bone, dentition, tongue, and mucosa. This design allows users to practice probing under conditions closely resembling actual clinical scenarios while monitoring forces in real time. Verification experiments demonstrated the simulator’s ability to independently measure probing and resting forces. Results confirmed that force applied to the alveolar bone was recorded solely as probing force, while force on the dentition or tongue was exclusively recorded as resting force. Furthermore, the simulator effectively visualized differences in skill levels between experts and novices. Experts consistently maintained probing forces within the optimal range of 20–25 gf, whereas novices showed greater variability, often applying excessive force. This capability enables targeted and efficient skill development tailored to individual proficiency levels.
