革新的技法に向けた基礎的研究 : 産地の異なる素材比較の視点から

本稿は、日本の窯業産地のなかでも磁器産地に着目し、なかでも東日本の大きな産地である瀬戸焼と西日本の大きな産地である有田焼の坏土の違いを比較し、革新的技法に適した磁土を検討するものである。筆者は、鋳込み成形のように泥漿を石膏型へ流し込み目的物を得る技法とは異なり、型の形状を写しとるための泥漿ではなく泥漿自体が形をつくりあげる技法を目指してきた。これまでの研究により、泥漿の水分量や解膠剤の添加量、成形時の注意点等を分析し、固体でも液体でもない可塑性のある流動体による泥漿を作りだし、革新的技法により形を成形することが可能となった。しかし、これまで使用してきた磁土は瀬戸焼の磁土のみであり、日本各地にある産地ごとに磁土の性質は違うのではないかと考えるようになった。そこで、一般的に長石質であるといわれている瀬戸焼の磁土と陶石質であるといわれている有田焼の磁土は、はたしてそのとおりなのか確かめるとともに、長石質と陶石質の性質の違いが、成形時や焼成品にどのような影響を及ぼしているのか、焼成実験や成分分析によって分析・検討していく。最終的に、筆者が目指す革新的技法に適している磁土はどちらの性質をもつものなのか、明らかにする。
