Differential correlations of serum PFASs with thyroid hormones in girls with central and incomplete precocious puberty: a machine learning analysis

Yan Li, Yanan Xing, Xiaoqin Yin, Shaolian Zang et autres

Background: Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are persistent environmental contaminants widely detected in Chinese children. Exposure has been associated with thyroid function and altered puberty timing. Objectives: To evaluate associations between serum PFAS concentrations and thyroid hormone (TH) levels in girls with …

Association between PFAS exposure and bilirubin metabolism: A metabolome-wide analysis in children

Xinhan Zhang, Jie Xiang, Ruolin Qin, Q Liu et autres

Legacy per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are restricted, but the associations between emerging alternatives and bilirubin metabolism remain understudied in children. We conducted a cross-sectional study using data from Zhejiang ELEVEN cohort during 2021-2024. We analyzed the associations between 37 serum PFAS …

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances may be a novel environmental etiology of nonalcoholic fatty liver: a national cross-sectional study

Xuehua Hu, Nan Sheng, Yue Chen, Wanying Shi et autres

The global prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has been on the rise, with nearly one-quarter of the world’s population currently affected by this condition. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have been suggested as emerging and potentially modifiable environmental risk factors …

Agentic Discovery of Exchange-Correlation Density Functionals

Titouan Duston, Jiashu Liang, Yuanheng Wang, Weihao Gao et autres

The development of accurate exchange-correlation (XC) functionals remains a longstanding challenge in density functional theory (DFT). The vast majority of XC functionals have been hand designed by human researchers combining physical insight, exact constraints, and empirical fitting. Recent advances in large language …

Mechanistic shift of bioaccumulation from exposure-controlled to trophic-driven for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances along estuary-open sea gradient

Yanan Li, Yitao Pan, Yi Luo, Fengfeng Dong et autres

• Transition from exposure- to trophic-driven accumulation along estuary-sea gradient. • PFMOAA show noncanonical accumulate pattern deviated from chain-length-dependent trend. • Bioaccumulation ability of long-chained PFAS tended to increase with trophic level. • Short-chained PFAS showed downward trend from invertebrates transferred to …

Sensitive windows of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances exposure and children’s intelligence quotient

Yanan Xing, Hong Gan, Dihui Xu, Xiaoyan Wu et autres

Accurate identification of critical windows of neurodevelopmental susceptibility to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) exposure across the prenatal-to-childhood continuum carries significant public health implications. Although PFAS have been linked to neurodevelopmental impairments, the precise temporal windows of greatest susceptibility remain poorly defined. …

Structure–dependent association between Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances and hemoglobin in the Chinese population: insights from epidemiological analysis and molecular simulations

Xuedan Xu, Keqi Hu, Yingli Qu, Fengfeng Dong et autres

The association between perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and hemoglobin (Hb) in general population, as well as their structural-functional relationship remains to be elucidated. We examined both individual and joint-level associations of serum PFAS with Hb concentrations using data from the China …

Recognition, distribution, and toxicities of novel per- and polyfluoropolyether carboxylic acids

Guanzheng Lai, Jiayin Dai, Nan Sheng
