Interface Engineering of Lithium Metal Anodes via a Polysulfide-Phosphosiloxane Additive for Durable Li–S Batteries

HanBing Chen, Peng Lu, Jesse Zhu, Fanglei Zeng et autres

Lithium–sulfur batteries (LSBs) are a promising next-generation energy storage option due to their excellent theoretical energy density. Nevertheless, issues such as lithium dendrite growth and SEI layer instability hinder their commercialization. This study introduced LPSP-PDMS, a polyphosphosiloxane polysulfide polymer, as an electrolyte …

Flame-Retardant Sulfur Cathode Composite Materials for Fire-Safe and Stable Lithium–Sulfur Batteries

Peng Lu, Fanglei Zeng, Ning Li, Jesse Zhu et autres

Lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries are regarded as a representative next-generation energy storage technology due to their high energy density, low cost, and environmental friendliness. Nevertheless, their widespread application is hindered by challenges such as the insulating nature of sulfur and Li 2 S, …

Ultrastable Sodium/Potassium Metal Anode Enabled by a Multifunctional Interphase Layer with Enhanced Ion Transport Kinetics

Huili Yu, Daochuan Jiang, Xiaolong Cheng, Peng Lu et autres

Abstract Na (K) metal batteries (NMB and KMB) have gained tremendous attention as large‐scale energy storage systems because of their high specific capacity, low working potential, and natural abundance. However, severe Na dendrite growth hinders the practical application of Na (K) anode. …

Human milk oligosaccharides reduce necrotizing enterocolitis-induced neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment in mice

Chhinder Pal Sodhi, Raheel Ahmad, William B. Fulton, Carla Marisa Lopez et autres

This study reveals that the administration of human milk oligosaccharides, which are present in human breast milk, can interfere with the proinflammatory gut-brain axis and prevent neuroinflammation in the setting of necrotizing enterocolitis, a major intestinal disorder seen in premature infants.

Water-resistance study of linear friction-welded thermo-treated beech using tomography

Peng Lu, E. Baldenberger, Patrick Perré

Water resistant property of linear friction-welded beech and thermo-treated beech samples were compared. X-ray tomographic anatomy illustrated that the interface of welded thermo-treated beech was narrow and compact due to removal of less thermo-stable components. A profound crack was noticed for welded …

(Invited) Static and Dynamics View of the Solid Electrolyte Interphase during Charge Transfer Reactions -Modeling and Experiments

Yue Qi, Zhe Liu, Yunsong Li, Jialin Liu et autres

By treating the solid electrolyte interphase as a model layer, the energy landscape of the simplest charge transfer reaction of Li+ + e- --> Li0 was predicted via a new Li/Li2CO3/liquid-EC interface model with density functional theory calculations. The model revealed that …

A Bottom-Up Formation Mechanism of Solid Electrolyte Interphase Revealed by Isotope-Assisted Time-of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry

Zhe Liu, Peng Lu, Qinglin Zhang, Xingcheng Xiao et autres

Understanding the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) formation mechanism is critically important for the performance and durability of lithium-ion batteries. However, the details of how SEI builds up into a nanometer-thick layer from molecular level reduction reactions on negative electrodes are missing. Here, …
