A practical carbon model for managing peri‑urban bamboo forests as nature-based climate solutions

Shitephen Wang, Keito Kobayashi, Minori Tokito, Wen-Hung Huang et autres

Process-based models are essential for understanding carbon cycle dynamics and informing land-use policy and landscape management, yet growing structural complexity often limits their operational use in resource-constrained settings. We present the Plant Ecosystem Model for Carbon and Flux Estimation (PEMCAFE), a stripped-back, …

Sources of carbon supporting the fast growth of developing immature moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) culms: inference from carbon isotopes and anatomy

Shitephen Wang, Daniel Epron, Keito Kobayashi, Satoru Takanashi et autres

Abstract Phyllostachys edulis is a spectacularly fast-growing species that completes its height growth within 2 months after the shoot emerges without producing leaves (fast-growing period, FGP). This phase was considered heterotrophic, with the carbon necessary for the growth being transferred from the …

Accessing the nursing behaviour of Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edilus) on carbohydrates dynamics and photosystems

Shitephen Wang, Tsai-Huei Chen, En-U Liu, Chiung-Pin Liu

Nursing behaviour, also known as breastfeeding behaviour, is the feeding of juvenile individuals with nutrients or proteins from matures especially in mammals. As a hypothetical phenomenon in bamboo forests, mature bamboos have transferred photoassimilates to young bamboos for recovering and rebuilding their …

Production and marketing channels on green bamboo shoots (Bambusa oldhamii) in Taiwan

Tsai-Huei Chen, Shitephen Wang, Dar-Hsiung Wang

The Trend of Growth Characteristics of Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens) Forests under an unmanaged Condition in Central Taiwan

Tsai-Huei Chen, Dar-Hsiung Wang, Shitephen Wang

Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens) is one of the important bamboo species in Taiwan. In this study, we investigated the stand density, growth characteristics, and aboveground biomass (AGB) of moso bamboo in an unmanaged condition between 2008 and 2014 in Sanjiaolun District, central …
