Biomechanical control of vascular morphogenesis by the surrounding stiffness

Yasuyuki Hanada, Semanti Halder, Yuichiro Arima, Misato Haruta et autres

Sprouting angiogenesis is a form of morphogenesis which expands vascular networks from preexisting networks. However, the precise mechanism governing efficient branch elongation driven by directional movement of endothelial cells (ECs), while the lumen develops under the influence of blood inflow, remains unknown. …

Biomechanical control of vascular morphogenesis by the surrounding stiffness

Koichi Nishiyama, Yasuyuki Hanada, Semanti Halder, Misato Haruta et autres

Abstract Sprouting angiogenesis is a form of morphogenesis which expands vascular networks from the preexisting ones in both developmental and postnatal settings. During this process, endothelial cells (ECs) collectively elongate new branches via their directional movement. Almost simultaneously, the vessel lumen develops …

Size and surface modification of silica nanoparticles affect the severity of lung toxicity by modulating endosomal ROS generation in macrophages

Masahide Inoue, Koji Sakamoto, Atsushi Suzuki, Shinya Nakai et autres

Abstract Background As the application of silica nanomaterials continues to expand, increasing chances of its exposure to the human body and potential harm are anticipated. Although the toxicity of silica nanomaterials is assumed to be affected by their physio-chemical properties, including size …

Primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment: evaluation of a minimally restricted face-down positioning after pars plana vitrectomy and gas tamponade

Kiichiro Kusaba, Tsuneaki Handa, Yukihiko Shiraki, Takuya Kataoka et autres

AIM: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of a minimally restricted face-down postoperative positioning following pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) with gas tamponade for primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). METHODS: Patients with primary RRD treated with PPV and gas tamponade and followed up …

Optimal Display Positions for Heads-Up Surgery to Minimize Crosstalk

K. Tsuboi, Yukihiko Shiraki, Yuichiro Ishida, Takashi Shibata et autres

Purpose: To determine optimal display positions during heads-up surgery (HUS) to minimize crosstalk. Methods: Three three-dimensional (3D) displays were analyzed to evaluate the relationship between display position and amount of crosstalk. First, the 3D displays were calibrated to show a completely white …

P‐198: Late‐News Poster: Clinical Utility of Stereoscopic 3D Displays in Heads‐up Surgery

Takashi Shibata, Yukihiko Shiraki, Motohiro Kamei

Heads‐up surgery is an operation performed while viewing the surgical field on a 3D display instead of using the eyepiece of the microscope. Clinical trials of ophthalmic surgery revealed that this technique shortened the operation time over time. However, some issues were …
