Corisin induces proteostasis stress to drive epithelial injury and pulmonary fibrosis

Hajime Fujimoto, Taro Yasuma, Corina N. D’Alessandro‐Gabazza, Masaaki Toda et autres

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive, fatal disease lacking clarity on the mechanisms linking epithelial injury to fibrotic remodeling. Here, we identify the microbiota-derived corisin as a potent, multifaceted driver of epithelial injury and pulmonary fibrosis. Leveraging targeted DNA sequencing of …

The use of fatty acid markers to distinguish hatchery and wild chum salmon fry and a description of post-stocking changes in fatty acid levels

Yutaka Yano, Koh Hasegawa, Kentaro Honda, Y Ogura

Fatty acid compositions of chum salmon ( Oncorhynchus keta ) fry were examined to distinguish between hatchery and wild fish in natural environments. Levels (%) of 18:2n-6 (linoleic acid) were significantly higher in fry obtained from a hatchery (13.0 %) than in …

Microbiota-derived corisin accelerates kidney fibrosis by promoting cellular aging

Taro Yasuma, Hajime Fujimoto, Corina N. D’Alessandro‐Gabazza, Masaaki Toda et autres

The increasing global prevalence of diabetic nephropathy poses substantial health and economic burdens. Currently, effective anti-fibrotic therapies for managing kidney fibrosis associated with chronic kidney disease are lacking. This study reveals corisin, a microbiota-derived peptide, as a central driver in the progression …

An investigation on developing an effective method for improving pigmentation in the muscle of sockeye salmon Oncorhynchus nerka

Takeshi Yamamoto, Daisuke Izumida, Yutaka Yano, Hiroyuki Matsunari et autres

Massive stocking of chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) fry fattens non-native brown trout (Salmo trutta) in Hokkaido, Japan

Kentaro Honda, Koh Hasegawa, Masatoshi Ban, Yutaka Yano et autres

In Japan, stocked chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) fry may have become the perfect prey for non-native brown trout (Salmo trutta), which are popular targets of anglers. If this is the case, fry stocking which is intended to boost commercial fishing may be …

Reduced blood glucose levels by the combination of vadadustat in an elderly patient with chronic kidney disease who was receiving mitiglinide and sitagliptin: a case report

Ayumi Takakura, Toshinori Hirai, Naomi Hamaguchi, Rika Mukohara et autres

Abstract Background Our case is the first report showing the development of hypoglycemia following the administration of vadadustat in a patient with chronic kidney disease being treated with mitiglinide and sitagliptin, possibly due to drug–drug interaction between vadadustat and sitagliptin under the …

DHA and EPA levels in a piscivorous fish changed by preying upon stocked salmon fry

Koh Hasegawa, Yutaka Yano, Kentaro Honda, Y Ogura

Increases in prey population size can affect the physiology and ecology of upper-trophic level organisms. This phenomenon is known as a bottom-up effect. For example, the increased abundance of prey resources can trigger physiological (internal) changes in predators, such as improvements in …
