Building economic resilience and inclusivity by diversifying economies in Mozambique
Projet national au Mozambique, financé par le Programme des Nations unies pour le développement.
Objectif officiel
The United Nations Development Programme, in partnership with Mozambique’s Ministry of Economy and in collaboration with the provincial governments of [Province 1] and [Province 2], is leading the Economic Diversification Portfolio (hereafter referred to as the Portfolio). This initiative seeks to strengthen economic resilience and inclusivity across Mozambiques provinces by reducing the country’s reliance on agriculture and extractive industries. By fostering diverse, sustainable industries, the Portfolio aims to create a more robust economic foundation that can withstand both internal and external shocks, with the ultimate goal of eradicating poverty in Mozambique. To address this economic dependence and concentration, the Portfolio will focus on initiatives in four key areas that are critical to unlocking sustainable economic growth and diversification. First, it will prioritize strengthening governance by improving regulatory frameworks to boost private sector confidence and attract investments. Second, it will emphasize skills development through enhanced educational and vocational training programs to prepare the workforce for emerging industries. Third, it will work to increase access to finance, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises, by reducing financial barriers and promoting financial inclusion. Finally, it will focus on improving infrastructure and access to technology, including digital connectivity, to create a solid foundation for sustained economic expansion. Over the long term, these efforts are expected to catalyze the creation of new industries, generate employment, strengthen economic resilience and inclusivity, and contribute to poverty alleviation. The Portfolio will implement a set of interconnected interventions designed to work together to achieve strategic development outcomes. It is managed, monitored, and evaluated through a single, integrated, and dynamic operational framework.
