Objectif officiel

<p>The SAHWIRA (Sustainable Agribusiness Hubs and Wholesome Initiatives for Rural Advancement) project forms part of the European Union¿s broader commitment to advancing greener, more resilient and market-driven agriculture in Zimbabwe¿s dryland areas. Building on the EU¿s landscape and territorial approach, the project focuses on strengthening climate-smart production systems and establishing sustainable agribusiness models that can thrive in increasingly climate-stressed environments. A central pillar of the action is the development of commercially viable, investment-ready agribusinesses that crowd in private sector capital, foster value addition, and drive local economic growth.</p><p>The intervention targets districts with high potential for traditional grains, drought resistant crops and emerging value chains like sesame, paprika, sunflower, castor beans and chilli, while addressing persistent gaps in extension services, market integration, renewable-energy powered processing, and farmer organisation capacities. Through this approach, the project contributes to improved livelihoods, stronger and more competitive value chains, and enhanced climate resilience for smallholder farmers, particularly women and youth, while laying the foundations for sustained agribusiness investment and inclusive economic growth across the south-eastern lowveld.</p><p class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Overall objective</strong>: Greener, sustainable and market-linked agroprocessing businesses established through a shareholding model, to service smallholder farmers in Mwenezi, Chiredzi and Beitbridge districts that are practising climate smart agriculture.</p><p class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Outcomes (specific objectives):</strong></p><ol><li data-list="bullet" class="ql-align-justify"><span class="ql-ui" contenteditable="false"></span><strong>Outcome 1</strong> - Smallholder farming households in Beitbridge, Chiredzi and Mwenezi applying new CSA knowledge and practices to improve their yields and farm incomes in all 3 targeted project districts.</li><li data-list="bullet" class="ql-align-justify"><span class="ql-ui" contenteditable="false"></span><strong>Outcome 2</strong> - Agroprocessing businesses operating viably and sustainably, adding value to produce from smallholder farmers and meeting specifications of niche local and export markets.</li></ol>
