Objectif officiel

<p>The programme aims to support Kenya¿s sustainable economic development and green transition. Affordable, reliable and clean energy are key factors on this developmental path for Kenya to transform to an industrialised, middle-income country. Highlighting the need of action, Kenya directly faces the consequences of climate change by more frequent and severe droughts and flooding events. The country has great potential in the field of renewable energies, with a great variety of sources and is already producing more than 90% of its electricity with renewables. Besides this potential, a major issue is power supply reliability. Electricity transmission and distribution systems frequently face outages and substantial technical losses. To achieve its National Determined Contributions (NDCs) of the Paris Agreement, Kenya requires financing from its international partners.</p><p>The programme consists of several energy projects, leveraging funds and providing further co-financing options under the Team Europe Initiative <span style="color: black;">Green Deal #TeamEuropeKenya - part II</span>. Therefore, the programme contributes to the renewable energy sector by extending electricity generation capacities and strengthening the transmission system. Furthermore, technical assistance provides capacity building for the implementing partners. The objective is to increase the resilience, efficiency and sustainability of the energy system to ultimately strengthen the economy, improve the quality of people¿s lives and save greenhouse gas emissions.</p>
