Creativity in ADHD and Autism: A Scoping Review of Conceptualisation and Measurement

Creativity is often described as a potential strength associated with ADHD and autism, yet studies vary considerably in how creativity is defined and assessed. This scoping review will examine how creativity has been conceptualised, operationalised and measured in empirical research involving diagnosed or trait-based ADHD or autism. Following JBI scoping-review methodology, relevant studies will be identified through systematic searches of APA PsycINFO, PubMed and Embase. The review will map creativity constructs, measures, administration procedures, scoring approaches and participant characteristics across studies. It will also consider the suitability of these measurement approaches for ADHD and autistic populations, supported where relevant by original measure-development papers and psychometric or validation evidence. Expected outcomes include identifying common measurement approaches, methodological limitations and evidence gaps, and providing directions for more appropriate and inclusive future creativity research involving ADHD and autism.
