Le résumé fourni par la source
Current diagnoses of developmental delays in toddlers often rely on clinical observations, and the processes are time-consuming and easy to be biased by subjective interpretation. These limitations possess particular challenges in resource-limited or rural areas where pediatric specialists are limited. This study proposes an automated assessment framework for evaluating gait development in toddlers aged from 12 to 36 months, aiming to improve the efficiency and accessibility of early developmental screening. In collaboration with the Early Intervention Evaluation Center at MacKay Memorial Hospital (Taiwan), we established the first domestic video-based dataset of toddler gait, annotated by clinical physicians to distinguish kids between typical and delayed developmental statuses. By applying a machine learning classifier with multi-feature selection from front and back views, the system achieved a classification accuracy of 71% in identifying developmental delays. This research demonstrates the feasibility of artificial intelligence in early intervention screening and provided a foundation for a low-cost, high-efficiency tool to support early developmental assessment. The system could be applied for future deployment in home and primary care settings, particularly in underserved or remote regions.
