Le résumé fourni par la source
A green bio-based wood adhesive by utilizing a by-product (Camellia oleifera meal, CM) obtained during the processing of Camellia oil extraction, which was further combined with citric acid and glucose through a simple and convenient strategy. The resulting CM-based wood adhesive exhibited superior bonding performance, which can be attributed to the esterification and amidation cross-linking reactions that occurred between the ingredients, forming a dense adhesive network. Notably, plywood bonded with CM-CA6-G6 has shown wet shear strength values of 1.63 MPa after warm-water immersion and 1.59 MPa after boiling-water immersion, which surpassed the threshold of the Chinese National Standard (GB/T 9846–2015, ≥0.7 MPa). Additionally, the shear strength of the adhesive met the standard requirements for exterior-grade plywood application (Type I). The developed adhesive also demonstrated excellent long-term mildew resistance, lasting over 56 days, and an extended shelf-life, maintaining a shear strength of 1.14 MPa after 14 days. Furthermore, it exhibited low VOC emissions, with a value close to 1.83 × 10⁶ mg/m²·h. Crucially, the in-situ formation of a deep eutectic solvent (DES) based on citric acid and glucose played a decisive role in regulating the viscosity and adhesive spreading, while also contributing to the excellent adhesion properties due to these active components. Based on these advantages, the current approach offers a straightforward strategy for developing sustainable bio-based wood adhesives using inexpensive agroforestry by-products, highlighting its efficiency in utilizing such abundant resources and substituting petroleum-derived products. • A fully biobased wood adhesive was prepared by Camellia Oleifera Meal. • This adhesive can be obtained easily without any further pre-reaction. • This adhesive exhibited a promising on application for exterior-grade plywood. • The adhesive shown a excellent long-acting mildew protection and long shelf-life. • This kind of adhesive displayed a low VOCs emission.
