Chemokine receptors (Cxcr4 and Ccr2) are implicated as modulators of monocyte trafficking and migration in mammals. Circadian oscillations of these chemokines have a regulatory role in patterning monocyte migration and inflammatory responses. Disruptions in circadian oscillations of monocytes is known to aggravate the pro-inflammatory response in autoimmune, metabolic and systemic chronic inflammatory disorder but the mechanistic details of key regulators and affected pathways lacks clarity. Herein, we hypothesize that Bmal1-Clock heterodimer binds to the E-box elements present in the 5' UTR promotor region of the chemokine receptors, regulating the monocyte migration via alterations in chemotaxis pathway leading to increased recruitment of inflammatory monocytes.
