Le résumé fourni par la source
Due to the growing number of cancer patients, advancements in accelerator technologies, such as the laser-driven accelerators that are being explored at the ELI Beamlines facility, are essential. During the first biological experiments with multi-shot laser-driven proton beams (LDP), human skin fibroblasts AG01522 were irradiated in the plateau region in front of the SOBP with a proton mean energy of approximately 23.5 MeV, with doses ranging from ~ 0.4 Gy to 1.5 Gy, and fixed about 30 min after the end of irradiation. The effect of LDP was observed as 53BP1 foci marking the DNA double-strand breaks. Results suggest that samples irradiated with multi-shot LDP exhibit a similar biological response to samples exposed to single-shot LDP assessed between 1- and 2-hours post-exposure. Considering the extended irradiation duration, cells likely initiated repair processes already during irradiation. These findings provide an initial look at this user platform’s potential for advanced radiobiological research.
