Le résumé fourni par la source
This practice-based article describes a program that aims to fill the gap in STEM education by introducing the research culture to high school students while offering them the chance to engage in scientific research early in their careers. The Students as Researchers Initiative (SRI) developed by AMALOUNA, an American University of Beirut affiliated educational organization, is an 8-week program which matches students to research mentors and allow them to gain a hands-on laboratory experience, generate data, and share findings with a scientific and laymen audience. Since its launch, the program has grown with a total of 64 students up till 2019 and around 50% of its alumni pursuing a career related to STEM. The program received positive feedback from both students and their mentors, and appears to have stimulated students’ interests in STEM, introduced them to new skills, and acted driver for their self-discovery and future career choices.
