Electromechanical Self-Oscillations of Carbon Field Emitters
Le résumé fourni par la source
The spontaneous generation of AC currents and vibrations in field emitters based on carbon compounds is now a well-studied effect. This chapter overviews the different experimental realizations of the self-oscillations and of the different proposed mechanisms. It specially emphasizes their state-of-the-art performances in terms of highest current, frequency, and stability for future applications. In the past decades, the development of micro and then nano-electromechanical systems resulted in the emergence of field-emission devices in a diode configuration that shared the physical properties of triodes. The chapter reviews the successful fabrication of self-oscillating electromechanical field emitter, describes the physical mechanism underlying this intriguing effect, and emphasizes their performances as well as limitations.
