Categorization of Video Used in a Digital Learning Online Professional Learning Exchange for Professional Development by the State of New Jersey

This paper presents an overview of a project undertaken by a partnership between the New Jersey Institute of technology (NJIT) and the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) to build an Online Professional Learning Exchange (OPLE), a fully online resource, to provide professional development (PD) for over 150,000 educators in the state of New Jersey that supports face-toface, blended, and fully online learning situations. A key aspect of this effort was the use of video in a variety of ways. The development of the OPLE as well as the lessons learned about the categories and parameters related to videos are presented. Findings about the key aspects of online digital learning for educators are also discussed, along with the results of focus groups and reviews conducted on the OPLE. The survey instrument that was designed for use during pilot testing is provided along with a discussion of the broader impacts and potential implications of this initiative.
