九州沖縄の一次・二次学校検尿異常者に対する検診の6割が学校医主体の個別方式で行われている。特に地方では約7割が個別方式であり，検診委員会や，強陽性者に対する緊急受診システム，一定の判定基準がない地域も多い。これらの問題に対応して九州学校検診協議会では統一マニュアルおよび集計表を2004年に作成した。これらを導入した宮崎県では，三次検診受診率の有意な増加 (p<0.05)，診断保留率の有意な減少率 (p<0.001) を認め，特に個別方式で顕著であり，九州沖縄の現状に適したものといえる。現状では，統一集計表を用いた九州全体の集計では，各県の尿所見陽性率に差があり，また，九州沖縄における養護教諭のマニュアルの認知度や，利用率も低かった。統一マニュアルの普及により，各地域で診断基準や分類の標準化が進めば，地方だけでなく，都市部を含めた，より大きなデータベースの構築が可能となり，小児腎疾患の疫学的研究の発展が期待される。
