锰是国家战略紧缺关键矿产之一，被广泛用于钢铁工业和新能源汽车、新材料等战略新兴产业。近年来，我国在锰矿资源勘查方面取得了显著进展，例如在城口地区探获了高燕和修齐大型锰矿床。尽管前人对扬子北缘城口碳酸锰矿床进行了系统研究，但在沉积环境和矿床成因等核心问题上仍存在较大争议，导致城口锰矿成矿规律尚未得到充分阐明。为了更全面地了解城口锰矿床的沉积环境，本文测定了城口典型锰矿床（高燕、修齐和大渡溪）的氮同位素组成（δ15N）。结果显示，城口锰矿床的N同位素组成（平均值为7.27‰）明显高于同时期海洋（大约5‰），这表明城口次级盆地的氮循环主要以反硝化作用和/或氨的厌氧氧化为主。结合前人对城口锰矿床铁化学组分的分析和草莓状黄铁矿粒径的分析，本文认为锰矿是在氧化还原分层的水柱中沉积形成的，在（次）氧化环境下以锰氧化物的形式沉淀并富集，在缺氧底层水中还原为Mn(II)，并以菱锰矿的形式保存。此外，根据矿石结构和构造（鲕粒结构和叠层石构造）和Sr/Ba值（高燕均值为0.19，修齐均值为0.29，大渡溪均值为0.49），本文发现城口地区高燕锰矿区的古水深最浅，修齐次之，大渡溪相对较深。结合不同锰矿区的吨位，本文指出锰矿形成于高能浅水环境。总体而言，本研究认为氧化还原梯度是控制城口锰矿富集成矿的重要因素，这为城口地区的锰矿找矿勘探提供了新的视角。
