The Thales TH1512: A New 117.5 GHz 1 MW Continuous-Wave Industrial Gyrotron for the DIII-D Tokamak

Alberto Leggieri, Konstantinos A. Avramidis, Nikolai de Boucaud, Loannis Chelis et autres

This paper presents the design, fabrication and preliminary assessment of the THALES TH1512 1 MW 117.5 GHz CW gyrotron, dedicated to the DIII-D fusion facility. Short pulse tests at KIT demonstrated 1.3 MW output and $48\%$ efficiency with readiness for long-pulse operation.

Real-time steerable frequency-stepped Doppler backscattering (DBS) system for local helicon wave electric field measurements on the DIII-D tokamak

Satyajit Chowdhury, N. A. Crocker, W. A. Peebles, R. Lantsov et autres

A new frequency-stepped Doppler backscattering (DBS) system has been integrated into a real-time steerable electron cyclotron heating launcher system to simultaneously probe local background turbulence (f < 10 MHz) and high-frequency (20-550 MHz) density fluctuations in the DIII-D tokamak. The launcher allows …

Current Status of the ECH Gyrotron System on the DIII-D Tokamak

Yuri A. Gorelov, Antonio C. Torrezan, N. de Boucaud, Perry Nesbet et autres

The ECH gyrotron system at DIII-D consists of five 110-GHz Communications and Power Industries (CPI) diode tubes with non-depressed collectors currently available for plasma experiments in the 2023 campaign. In addition, one recently repaired CPI gyrotron with a depressed collector has begun …

High-power helicon system commissioning and conditioning progress on DIII-D

Jared P. Squire, M. W. Brookman, B. Van Compernolle, Andrea M Garofalo et autres

The high-power helicon, aka fast wave in the lower hybrid range of frequencies (LHRF), program has completed initial experiments at DIII-D. A 30-element comb-line traveling wave antenna successfully coupled over 0.3 MW of rf power at 476 MHz into both L-mode and …

The high-power helicon program at DIII-D: gearing up for first experiments

B. Van Compernolle, M. W. Brookman, Charles P. Moeller, Robert I. Pinsker et autres

Helicon current drive, also called fast wave current drive in the lower hybrid range of frequencies, has long been regarded as a promising current drive tool for reactor grade plasmas. A newly installed MW-level system at DIII-D will be the first test …

Protection of the DIII-D Vessel, Diagnostics and Windows from Microwaves Injected by the ECH/ECCD System

Mirela Cengher, John Lohr, Yuri A. Gorelov, Antonio C. Torrezan et autres

The ECH/ECCD system on DIII-D benefits from protective measures set in place in order to reduce the likelihood of refracted rf power potentially reaching sensitive areas of the vacuum vessel or diagnostics. In addition to installation of shutters and valves, a density …
