夜間に著明に増悪する肩関節痛を訴えて当科を受診した中高年女性3症例に，単純 X 線検査で肩関節周囲の石灰沈着を認め石灰沈着性腱板炎と診断し，桂枝芍薬知母湯を投与した後に短期間で症状が軽快した。さらに，そのうち2症例においては石灰化の消失を確認できた。石灰沈着性腱板炎については有効な西洋医学的治療法が多く存在するが，漢方治療もよい選択肢になりうると考えた。
