Comprehensive analysis of variability in psychophysiologic and cognitive brain activity induced by volatile compounds emitted from Myrtus communis essential oil

本研究では，マートル精油の吸引がProfile of Mood States2 （POMS2）による感情変化とストレスおよび脳内ワーキングメモリ活動を反映するFmθに与える影響を網羅的に探索した。また，その影響の性差を検討した。マートル精油の吸引前後で，POMS2短縮版と唾液コルチゾール濃度を測定した。さらに，視覚探索課題中とその前後の脳波Fmθ波・β波含有率と心電図LF/HFを測定した。GC-MSにより参加者に呈示したマートル精油の定量分析を行った。マートル精油の吸引により女性ではPOMS得点の低下と活気–活力の上昇が，男性では疲労感の軽減が観察された。また，唾液コルチゾール濃度が低下する傾向が示された。さらに，男性ではFmθが亢進し，女性では課題後のβ波の低下が認められたことからワーキングメモリの賦活と鎮静作用が示された。GC-MS分析の結果，参加者に呈示されたマートル精油を含む空気からα-pinene 94.6 µg/㎥，1,8-cineole 10.3 µg/㎥，d-limonene 37.5 µg/㎥が検出された。さらに，指標間の変動を用いた相関解析により，マートル精油のみで生理的変動の相関が認められた。男性では課題中LF/HFと課題後コルチゾールの間に有意な強い正の相関のみが認められ，女性においては，課題中LF/HFと課題後コルチゾールの間に有意な中程度の正の相関と課題後後頭部βと課題中HFの間に有意な強い負の相関が認められた。Fmθの変動と他の生理指標との相関は認められなかったことから，マートル精油の亢進作用は自律神経系の賦活とは異なる機序の存在が示唆された。今後の研究では，嗅覚受容体や脳内代謝および自律神経系それぞれの系に対してで，マートル精油に含まれるα-pinene，1,8-cineole，d-limoneneが性別ごとにどのような機序で心理生理的効果をもたらすかを詳細に検証する必要がある。
