All-polymer heterojunction nanoparticles enable reproducible and enhanced hydrogen evolution photocatalysis

Charles Jeffreys, Yakun He, Nisreen Alshehri, Lingyun Zhao et autres

Replacing small-molecule acceptors (Y6) with polymerized analogues (PJ1-R) in organic nanoparticles yields a 2.5× increase in photocatalytic hydrogen evolution with much enhanced reproducibility due to reduced crystallinity and better intermixing.

Determining Exciton Diffusion Length in Organic Semiconductors: Unifying Macro‐ and Microscopic Perspectives

Wenchao Yang, Catherine S. P. De Castro, Safakath Karuthedath, Yuliar Firdaus et autres

Abstract Long exciton diffusion length ( L D ) is key to maximizing excitation harvesting in organic solar cells, but contradicting values are reported for non‐fullerene acceptors (NFA). To understand the factors enabling large L D , experimental observation of exciton decay …

Mitigating triplet loss in 2D WSe 2 /non-fullerene heterostructures using halogenated acceptors

Sreelakshmi Chandrabose, Ana M. Valencia, Meysam Raoufi, Nisreen Alshehri et autres

/ITIC hybrid bilayer due to changes in the nature and energies of the interfacial charge transfer (CT) levels. Our results highlight the delicate balance between excitons and charges in such inorganic/NFA heterostructures.

On the Use of Reflection Polarized Optical Microscopy for Rapid Comparison of Crystallinity and Phase Segregation of P3HT:PCBM Thin Films

Rawan A. Alzahrani, Nisreen Alshehri, Alaa A. Alessa, Doha A. Amer et autres

Inside Front Cover: Polarized optical microscopy (POM) is a rapid, non-destructive technique for evaluating the crystallinity and phase segregation of thin films of organic semiconductor blends. In article 2400577, Frédéric Laquai, Christopher Petoukhoff, and co-workers demonstrate methods to reduce aberrations and maximize …

Rapid, nondestructive characterization techniques for evaluating the degree of crystallinity and phase segregation of organic semiconductor blend thin films are highly desired for in-line, automated optoelectronic device fabrication facilities. Here, it is demonstrated that reflection polarized optical microscopy (POM), a simple technique …

Mitigating Triplet Loss in 2D-WSe2/Non-fullerene Heterostructures Using Halogenated Acceptors

Sreelakshmi Chandrabose, Ana M. Valencia, Nisreen Alshehri, Frédéric Laquai et autres

Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (2D TMDCs) can be combined with organic semiconductors to form hybrid van der Waals heterostructures. Specially, non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) stand out due to their excellent absorption and exciton diffusion properties. Here, we couple monolayer tungsten diselenide (ML-WSe2) with …

N-Type polymeric mixed conductors for all-in-one aqueous electrolyte gated photoelectrochemical transistors

Latifah Almulla, Victor Druet, Christopher E. Petoukhoff, Wentao Shan et autres

An organic photoelectrochemical transistor (OPECT) is an organic electrochemical transistor (OECT) that utilizes light to toggle between ON and OFF states. The current response to light and voltage fluxes in aqueous media renders the OPECT ideal for the development of next-generation bioelectronic …

A single n-type semiconducting polymer-based photo-electrochemical transistor

Victor Druet, David Ohayon, Christopher E. Petoukhoff, Yizhou Zhong et autres

Conjugated polymer films, which can conduct both ionic and electronic charges, are central to building soft electronic sensors and actuators. Despite the possible interplay between light absorption and the mixed conductivity of these materials in aqueous biological media, no single polymer film …
