Performance of StyDex Beads for Removal of PFAS and Pharmaceuticals at a Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant

Emma F. Shapiro, Clare McGillis, Gray H. Harlan, Zhi-Wei Lin et autres

Abstract We evaluated the performance of a new styrene-functionalized β-cyclodextrin (StyDex) bead formulation for removing a mixture of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and pharmaceuticals from municipal wastewater effluent using rapid small-scale column tests (RSSCTs) and a four month pilot study at …

Porous Styrene Functionalized β-Cyclodextrin Beads for Organic Contaminant Removal from Wastewater

Emma F. Shapiro, Zhi-Wei Lin, Gray H. Harlan, Disraëli Noami Marie-Theresse Kusmus et autres

Removal of trace organic contaminants (TrOCs) from wastewater is a major challenge, as existing technologies are nonselective and foul quickly in wastewater matrices. We used a rapid synthesis-screening approach to develop and test a range of styrene functionalized β-cyclodextrin (StyDex) bead formulations …

Template‐Directed Synthesis and Isolation of Unimolecular Oligo[ n ]catenanes Using a One‐Pot CuAAC “Click” Reaction Approach

Sheila L. Tran, Gray H. Harlan, David E Puckowitz, Nathan E Wohlstadter et autres

Within the field of mechanically interlocked molecules, catenanes have garnered much interest in the past few decades due to their chain-like architecture of interlocked molecular rings. This interest stems from their unique properties and degrees of freedom that are distinct in comparison …

Synthesis of linear [7]- and [8]catenanes

Gray H. Harlan, Sheila L. Tran, Nathan D. Colley, Mark A. Nosiglia et autres

Catenanes are a family of mechanically interlocked molecules that consist of molecular rings that can be interlocked to give linear, radial, or cyclic structures. Although chemists have pursued extended linear poly[n]catenane architectures for many decades, there still exists a fundamental gap between …

Topologically Controlled Syntheses of Unimolecular Oligo[n]catenanes

Nathan D. Colley, Mark A. Nosiglia, Sheila L. Tran, Gray H. Harlan et autres

High Resolution Image Download MS PowerPoint Slide Catenanes are a well-known class of mechanically interlocked molecules that possess chain-like architectures and have been investigated for decades as molecular machines and switches. However, the synthesis of higher-order catenanes with multiple, linearly interlocked molecular …

Metalation/Demetalation as a Postgelation Strategy To Tune the Mechanical Properties of Catenane-Crosslinked Gels

Mark A. Nosiglia, Nathan D. Colley, Mary K. Danielson, Mark S. Palmquist et autres

Mechanically interlocked molecules (MIMs) possess unique architectures and nontraditional degrees of freedom that arise from well-defined topologies that are achieved through precise mechanical bonding. Incorporation of MIMs into materials can thus provide an avenue to discover new and emergent macroscale properties. Here, …

Evaluation of HIV-1 Latency Reversal and Antibody-Dependent Viral Clearance by Quantification of Singly Spliced HIV-1 vpu / env mRNA

Hongbo Gao, Ayşe Naz Ozantürk, Qiankun Wang, Gray H. Harlan et autres

and humanized mouse models, we showed that the vpu/env assay could be used to measure antibody efficacy in clearing HIV-1 infection. These results suggest that the vpu/env assay can accurately evaluate HIV-1 reactivation and bNab-based therapeutic interventions.

CARD8 inflammasome mediates pyroptosis of HIV-1-infected cells by sensing viral protease activity

Qiankun Wang, Hongbo Gao, Kolin M. Clark, Tang Pengfei et autres

Abstract HIV-1 has high mutation rates and exists as mutant swarms in the host. Rapid evolution of HIV-1 allows the virus to outpace host immune system, leading to viral persistence. Novel approaches to target immutable components are needed to clear HIV-1 infection. …
