SUpporting STronger Access to INnovative Energy Solutions in Diplacements Settings (SUSTAINED)

Objectif officiel

Access to clean, affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy is a prerequisite for people's welfare and ability to live up to their full potential and one of the SDGs. Uganda has one of the world's lowest per capita electricity consumption rates and a 90% reliance on biomass fuel for cooking. The energy needs in refugee settlements are particularly high, with limited grid connection, low private sector presence providing clean energy solutions, limited knowledge on, availability of, and willingness to pay for the solutions that are there. SUSTAINED foundational phase targets Bidibidi refugee settlement (West-Nile) to increase access to energy for refugees and host communities with a market system development and ecosystem approach, aimed at strengthening the demand- and supply side for clean energy solutions while supporting an enabling environment. The consortium aims to leverage existing funding and emphasizes learning in order to scale up the program in a later stage.
