Securing the Ghana-Burkina Faso interconnection line project

Objectif officiel

The project specific objectives (outcomes) will boost energy efficiencies through technical losses reductions; increase electricity trade up to 150-200MW; and improve the economic, financial and operational performance of Ghanas national transmission company GRIDCo.The expected impact of this project regional is a more sustainable and efficient regional electricity network under the West African Power Pool (WAPP).The full project (EUR 160,590,000) consists of the following investments:The construction of the Ghanaian section of the interconnection line between Bolgatanga and Ouagadougou;The construction of the 330 kV line from Kumasi to Bolgatanga and associated 330/161 kV substations;The upgrade of the Volta Achimota Mallam 161 kV line;The EU grant (EUR 10,200,000) will specifically support:The upgrade of the Ahodwo (K1BSP) Kumasi/Amwomaso (K2BSP) 161 kV line (and other relevant investments);Institutional support (capacity building, supervision, audits, communication and visibility plan).
