Objectif officiel

The overarching goal of the project is to strengthen women’s empowerment and economic independence, increase access to sustainable energy, and support climate adaptation and resilience in low-income areas of Kenya. The project is expected to lead to measurable changes in livelihoods, household well-being, gender equality, women’s leadership, community participation, reduced CO2 emissions, and enhanced organizational capacity. SI outlines three components in its application, each with specific objectives and expected results: Component 1 – Recruitment, Training, and Support for Women Entrepreneurs Women and youth from low-income households will be recruited and trained as entrepreneurs in sustainable energy. Over a 12-month period, they will participate in business training through Sisterhood Groups, receive mentorship from Solar Sister business developers, and gain access to peer support. The goal is for 20 women and youth to be trained, start and manage their own businesses, apply business planning and digital tools, strengthen their economic independence, and invest in family well-being. Component 2 – Pilot Project for Productive Use of Energy Technologies (PUE) Solar Sister will introduce and test 16 solar-powered mills (Solar Mills) in various counties, with a focus on gender equality. Female entrepreneurs will rent the equipment, operate the businesses, and receive business support. The purpose is to explore the potential for productive use of solar energy in off-grid areas. Expected results include increased income generation, improved savings and access to credit, strengthened food security, and reduced reliance on fossil fuels. Component 3 – Strengthening Capacity for Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) SI and Solar Sister will develop an integrated MEL system to track results in both entrepreneurship and PUE. The system will enable evidence-based scaling and strengthen the organization’s ability to measure and communicate impact. Expected results include full implementation of the MEL system across the organization, use of data for program development, and active participation of entrepreneurs in monitoring and reflecting on outcomes.
