Sustainable Solar Job Creation

South Africa is faced with an increasing demand for electricity but limited supply due to an array of challenges with the existing coal powered infrastructure. Solar power is a promising alternative to the current coal fired power generation. Growth of the solar industry is however limited by the availability of skilled labour. Through this project Amandla Development creates a training centre that targets trainees from the population of disadvantaged youth from the Philippi Area in Cape Town. These youth will be supported with soft skills through Amandla’s my Journey training program that increase employability. After that, they may participate in a practical solar maintenance training. Part of these trainees will further receive installation training and are expected to enter a promising career in South Africa’s growing solar sector.
