Thematic project Energy for the sustainable development of the east of Côte dIvoire

Objectif officiel

A modern electricity sector based on renewable energies is central to the Ivorian governments strategies regarding combating climate change as well as the overall economic and social development of the country. Within the framework of a reform partnership, the German federal government supports the Ivoirian government to promote a structural shift towards a Just Transition in the energy sector, thereby improving the foundations for an economic, social and climate-friendly development. The project Energy for the sustainable development of Eastern Côte dIvoire implemented by CI-ENERGIES, aims to improve the quality of electricity supply in the Iffou region. In this area, only about 39% of the households have access to the national power grid, households and businesses are affected by severe power fluctuations and outages. In this context, the project includes investments in three complementary components:1.Construction of a grid-connected solar power plant (37 MWp in phase 1, EU mandat included) in Sérébou with battery storage2.Construction of a control room for the automation of the distribution network in Eastern Côte dIvoire3.Extension, enhancement, and densification of the distribution network in 15 towns in the Iffou region.The project will contribute to reduce annual CO2 emissions by approximately 52.800t. The installation of battery energy storage system and the upgrading of the grid will significantly reduce the number and duration of outages and power fluctuations. The additional generation capacity will provide electricity to approximately 71.500 electricity consumers, the extension of the grid in Iffou will provide access to approximately 14,000 additional households.
