This project is a complementary measure to the development loan South African Facility for Green Growth (SAFGG).With greenhouse gas emissions of 544 million tons of CO+ 8322, p.a. and high per capita emissions (approx. 10 tons of CO+ 8322, p.a.), South Africa is one of the 20 largest CO+ 8322, emitters in the world. At the same time, South Africa is severely affected by the consequences of climate change, not least in the areas of water and agriculture. On the basis of several strategies such as the National Development Plan, the New Growth Path - Green Economy Accord and the National Sustainable Development Strategy, the South African government has identified the green economy as one of the most important sectors for investment and job creation. At the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in 2009, South Africa committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 42% by 2020. The National Climate Change Response White Paper adopted by Cabinet in 2011 provides a further binding basis for national climate policy, which has since been gradually developed and implemented under the leadership of the Department of Environmental Affairs.A particular focus for the South African government is financing the transition of the economy to a lower-carbon economy.This project is a development loan (low-interest loan) of EUR 75 million to the South African Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) to initiate a new, targeted loan program for larger companies in the green sector, the South African Facility for Green Growth (SAFGG).
