Strengthening quality infrastructure for Photovoltaic in Tunisia

In order to reduce Tunisias dependence on the price of oil, the government has increasingly developed strategies and projects for energy efficiency and the expansion of renewable energies. Due to the climatic conditions and its potential to supply remote rural areas with decentralised electricity, photovoltaics (PV) plays a central role and is accordingly high on the political agenda. The Tunisian PV market is characterised by a majority of smaller systems installed at companies and households. Large central PV plants at energy companies, on the other hand, are still rare. The current situation of the photovoltaic market in Tunisia is characterised by the high number of imported components of PV systems (solar modules, inverters, etc.) from Asia at a significantly lower price due to poor quality in some cases. In order to strengthen the confidence of users in photovoltaic technology and thus to be able to exploit the market potential, reliable quality of the individual components of systems and their installation is essential. However, the Tunisian quality infrastructure does not yet have the necessary competences and capacities to provide the required quality certificates and to create transparency about the quality of the products on the market (core problem)..
