Objectif officiel

The Alaska- Karoi Transmission Line Reinforcement Project involves the construction of a 132-kV single-pole electricity transmission line, 85 km long, between the 330 substation and kV / 132 kV Alaska and a new 132/330 kV substation in Karoi. The distribution network in Makonde and Hurungwe districts will also be upgraded to increase efficiency and connectivity. The project was conceived in view of the need for the Government of Zimbabwe to increase available capacity, expand access to electricity, improve the reliability of electricity supply and reduce losses along the Alaska- Karoi transmission line. Given the current excessive use of diesel generators in the project area, expanding access to electricity will have a positive impact on the environment and contribute to increased economic activity. The total project cost, excluding taxes and other duties, is estimated at US $ 22,046,700 (UA 15.910 million). It has four components: (i) the first component relates to the transmission line supporting the Zimbabwe Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC); (ii) the second component concerns technical assistance supporting the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) Holdings in the development of a long-term priorities and network master plan, production-oriented plan, transportation and distribution of the asset base; (iii) the third deals with the conduct of environmental and social impact studies for future projects in the reserve of projects targeting the energy sector; and (iv) the last component is social impact and targeting support to communities directly affected by the project.
