Cap Vert - Projet d’Energie Éolienne de Cabeólica

Objectif officiel

The Cabeólica wind park project includes the construction, operation and decommissioning of four wind parks on the islands of Santiago, São Vicente, Sal and Boa Vista in the Republic of Cabo Verde. Wind parks will include 30 to 32 wind turbines of 850 kW providing a total capacity of about 28 MW (e.i. 20% to 25% of the current energy demand). The project also includes a request for a loan from AfDB for the installation of wind turbines in the purpose of producing 28 MW, as well as the set-up of transmission lines to provide energy to existing consumers. It will enable the country to diversify its energy grid which is currently dominated by the production of thermal energy diesel (97% of the total installed capacity). The diversification of the energy grid will ensure the stability of the network; this will result in a reduction of the frequency of outages of electricity in the country. The project will also result in the stabilization of energy tariffs due to the volatility of prices related to the importation of fossil fuels that currently represents a huge burden for the economy of the country.
