Burundi - Projet d'assistance technique pour l'élaboration du plan directeur de production, de transport et de distribution de l'énergie électrique

Objectif officiel

The proposed project is a technical assistance to the Government of the Republic of Burundi for the preparation of a master plan for the production, transmission and distribution of electrical energy. This master plan aims to contribute to: (i) the reduction of inequalities in access to electricity between different regions on the one hand and between urban and rural populations on the other hand with a view to strengthening social cohesion; (ii) the promotion of economic diversification and thus the reduction of the vulnerability of the Burundian economy to exogenous shocks; (iii) the creation of employment, especially for young people; (iv) the promotion of the private sector by offering electricity at a cost that guarantees its competitiveness; (v) the substitution of electrical energy for firewood as an energy source in order to contribute to the reduction of deforestation. The technical assistance will also focus on the transfer of skills to the executives of the Ministry in charge of energy through training in the following areas: (i) taking into account the aspects of fragility in the preparation and implementation of a strategic and operational framework in the energy sector; (ii) design, monitoring and evaluation of investment projects in the energy sector; (iii) implementation and monitoring-evaluation of the master plan for the production, transmission and distribution of electrical energy. The project provides for consultancy services only.
