SMOS ocean salinity performance and TB bias correction

An End to End processing chain for the SMOS ocean salinity part (Figure 1) is used to estimate the TB bias after L1 processing as well as the SSS bias resulting from the L2OS retrieval. A TB correction is presented by calculating a mean TB bias over all 400 snapshots simulated for this study. Corrected TBs are used for L2OS retrieval and reveal an improved SSS. Furthermore, it is shown that the mean bias is not stable but varies along an orbit, visibly influenced by proximity to land.
