Le résumé fourni par la source
Carbon fibres are widly used in high-performance applications owing to their exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. Current production, however, is heavily dependent on petrochemical precursors such as polyacrylonitrile, raising concerns regarding sustainability and resource availability. Lignin, an abundant and renewable biopolymer derived from plants, offers a promising alternative for carbon fibre fabrication. A major challenge limiting its implementation is the restricted ability of lignin-based fibres to undergo efficient graphitisation. Strategies to enhance graphitic ordering include optimizing the choice of lignin source, introducing secondary components, and refining spinning process. This project aims to employ in situ X-ray scattering to track the structural transformations of lignin fibres during thermal treatment. Understanding of the graphitisation processes will enhance the development of sustainable fibres with improved mechanical properties.
