Isolated Femur Neck Fractures in Children: A Case Report

ABSTRACT Femoral neck fracture in children is rare. They usually arise from high energy trauma such as fall from height and road traffic crashes. Femoral neck fractures are fraught with high risk of complications-avascular necrosis of the head of femur, coxa vara, non-union and premature physeal closure. Isolated cases of femoral neck fractures are equally rare, as they are usually accompanied by concomitant injuries to the brain, lungs, liver, pelvis, etc. We report a 5-year-old girl who was pushed off the balcony of a storey building by the elder sibling. She landed on the right leg and sustained severe right hip pain with inability to bear weight on the right hip. She was rushed to the clinic within 2 hours of the injury and had surgical fixation of the fracture within 24 hours. This was done with 2 cannulated screws under C-Arm guidance. The objective is to emphasize the importance of prompt and early intervention to avert disabling complications in fracture neck of femur in children.
