This dataset accompanies the paper “Organ-specific nutrient allocation and its linkage to soil resources in relict shrubs of the Inner Mongolian desert steppe”. Data were collected from the desert steppe of West Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China. Four typical relict shrub species were studied: *Ammopiptanthus mongolicus*, *Zygophyllum xanthoxylum*, *Reaumuria trigyna*, and *Potaninia mongolica*. For each species, we measured carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) contents in roots, branches, and leaves, as well as rhizosphere soil properties, including soil organic carbon (SOC), total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), nitrate nitrogen (NO₃⁻-N), electrical conductivity (EC), soil water content (SWC), and soil bulk density (SBD). The dataset includes the following files: C, N, and P contents and their stoichiometric ratios (C:N, C:P, N:P) in roots, branches, and leaves of the four shrubs, as well as soil physicochemical properties for each species. This dataset was used to explore organ-specific nutrient allocation strategies and plant–soil coupling in desert relict shrubs. It can be used for comparative stoichiometric analyses, meta-analyses of desert plant nutrient economics, and validation of plant–soil interaction models.
