Slovenian validation of multidimensional assessment of Interoceptive Awareness - version 2

The Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness (MAIA-2) is a widely used tool for measuring interoceptive awareness, encompassing eight dimensions. This study aimed to validate the MAIA-2 in a Slovenian non-clinical sample (N = 403). We performed a confirmatory factor analysis and examined the eight-factor, the higher-order factor, two higher-order factors, and the bi-factor solutions, with the correlated eight-factor model fitting the data best. In this way, the Slovenian version retains all items and the factor structure of the original MAIA-2. Additionally, a higher-order model comprising six dimensions also demonstrated good fit, suggesting the presence of a common interoceptive awareness factor. Internal reliability estimates of individual subscales range from acceptable to good. Concurrent validity was supported by significant, low-to-moderate correlations between MAIA-2 subscales and related constructs, including positive associations with self-compassion, life satisfaction, and mindfulness, and negative associations with perceived stress and psychological inflexibility. Overall, the Slovenian adaptation of MAIA-2 demonstrated good psychometric properties, providing a psychometrically sound tool for assessing interoceptive awareness in the Slovenian-speaking population.
