Dataset of simultaneous ground reaction force measurements obtained with an instrumented hoof boot (IHB) and a stationary force plate (FP). The study aimed to compare key gait kinetic parameters derived from the IHB with corresponding FP data at the level of a group of horses. It was hypothesised that parameters would show a positive, strong correlation and good agreement. Horses were fitted with IHBs on all four hooves and led over a track with embedded FPs at walk and trot. For each horse, 4–14 valid trials of both fore- and hindlimbs were recorded. Parameters collected for each limb included peak vertical force (PVF) /peak vertical pressure (PVP), vertical impulse (AUC), peak loading rate (PLR), time of peak vertical force (TPVF) / time of peak vertical pressure (TPVP) and stance duration (StD). Furthermore, speed was recorded for each trial. Additionally, absolute PVF and AUC values measured with the FP were normalised to body weight. For the IHB, PVP and AUC were normalised to body weight as recorded by the IHB itself, since the manufacturer's software provides normalised data by default.
