Abstract Natural biomaterials have been investigated as sustainable alternatives for therapeutic use. This study developed and characterized self-supported films based on gum from Amburana cearensis (GAmb), glycerol, and turmeric with potential for buccal therapeutic applications. The films were evaluated for structural, physicochemical, mechanical, and functional properties. Turmeric incorporation increased film thickness and tensile strength, reaching 6.46 MPa, while FTIR, XRD, UV–Vis, and TG/DTG analyses indicated favorable interactions and improved thermal stability. Moisture content and solubility decreased with turmeric addition, whereas surface pH remained within the physiological range for oral mucosa. Films containing turmeric also exhibited high antioxidant activity in DPPH and ABTS assays and showed no visible hemolytic halos in a preliminary qualitative assay. Overall, GAmb-based films demonstrated promising characteristics as natural buccal biomaterial platforms.
