Le résumé fourni par la source
The paper examines Portuguese multi-word conjunctive adverbs (PC adverbs), which connect two independent sentences in a discourse (e.g., no entanto ‘however’). These adverbs, unlike those modifying internal sentence elements, facilitate transitions and articulate relations between statements in a discourse. The paper classifies PC adverbs based on their functions, such as introducing arguments, ordering sentences, justifying statements, adding comments, reformulating statements, providing examples, clarifying sequences, and expressing conditions. Part of a larger study on Brazilian Portuguese multi-word adverbs, this research uses the Lexicon-Grammar framework and analyzes 250 PC adverbs from a lexicon of about 3,700 multi-word adverbs. The analysis is based on the Roda Viva corpus, which includes interviews in contemporary Brazilian Portuguese. The study aims to describe the formal properties and functions of PC adverbs, resulting in an annotated subcorpus that will be publicly available and ensuring reproducibility through inter-annotator agreement.
