The Study of Architecture examines how architectural education is being reshaped in response to profound social, political, and environmental change. Centered on Finder Sted | Taking Place, a B.Arch. program at the Royal Danish Academy’s School of Architecture, the book reflects on a decade of pedagogical experimentation (2014–2023) conducted within the former seaplane hangar that housed the program—a space that becomes both a literal setting and a metaphor for architecture’s shifting historical trajectory. Once emblematic of modernity’s faith in progress, speed, and technological advancement, the seaplane hangar framed a generation of students confronting climate crisis, social inequality, decolonial critique, and changing understandings of gender, labor, and authorship. Through essays, conversations, and student work, the book explores how architectural education is moving away from hierarchy, individual genius, and extractive practices toward collective methods, inclusivity, sustainability, and new forms of critical imagination. Bringing together educators, students, researchers, and practitioners, The Study of Architecture asks what it means to educate architects today—and what kinds of spaces, values, and futures architectural education must cultivate in order to remain relevant in a rapidly changing world.
