This text reflects on an architectural study trip to Iran in 2017 and a drawing-based teaching programme in Yazd. Taking dust as both a material and conceptual point of departure, it explores drawing as a situated practice through which architecture, landscape, materiality, and time are observed and interpreted. Through students’ use of local desert dust in their drawings, the works become material and mnemonic records of place, connecting architectural representation with questions of memory, temporality, erosion, and the relationship between architecture and landscape.
