PERFORMANCE OF BROILER CHICKENS FED DIETS CONTAINING SOAKED DOUM PALM PULP MEAL, SUPPLEMENTED WITH MULTI-ENZYME
Résumé fourni par la source
This study was conducted to find out the effect of feeding soaked Doum Palm Pulp (DPPM) meal supplemented with multi-enzyme on performance of broiler chickens. In a completely randomized design 150, one- day- old broiler chicks (Ross 308 strain) were randomly assigned to five dietary treatment groups of 30 chicks. There were only three replicates per treatment with ten chicks each. The treatment groups were labeled as T1 control containing (0%) no soaked Doum palm pulp and enzyme, while T2, (25%) T3 (27.5%), T4 (30%) and T5 (32.5%) were treated with similar levels of (0.05% according to manufactures guide) multi-enzyme with varying inclusion levels of the Doum palm pulp meal respectively. The Doum palm (Hyphaene thebaica) pulp was soaked in water for about twenty four hours (24hr) and the water was allowed to be absorbed by pulp completely without allowing any to be decanted and later the soaked pulp was shade-dried. Feed and water were given ad libitum throughout the experimental period. Feed intake was recorded on a daily basis while weight gain was recorded on a weekly basis. The experiment lasted for 28 days. Data generated were subjected to analysis of variance using SAS (1999) version. The results indicated that significant (p<0.05) differences in all the parameters were observed except in the values of initial weight and feed conversion ratio. Final weight (660.13g), weight gain (617.38g/b) and daily weight gain (22.10/b/d) were significantly (p<0.05) higher in birds fed T4 (30%) diet compared with the remaining treatments. Daily feed intake in birds fed T4 and T5 diets had significantly (p<0.05) higher values. Feed cost (N/kg) and feed consumed N/d were higher in treatment one (T1 control).
