Exposure to Public Health Crisis, Sleep Duration, and Home Quarantine as Predictors of PTSD and Depressive Symptoms among Indonesian Adults
Résumé fourni par la source
This study examined the prevalence of probable post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depressive symptoms among Indonesian adults during a public health emergency and investigated whether sleep duration and home quarantine duration mediated the association between crisis-related exposure and psychological distress. A cross-sectional online survey was conducted with 500 Indonesian adults who had experienced health-related home quarantine. PTSD symptoms were measured using the PTSD Checklist–Civilian Version, and depressive symptoms were assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9. Hierarchical regression and mediation analyses were performed. Results showed that 57.8% of participants met the screening cutoff for probable PTSD, while 54.4% met the cutoff for probable depressive symptoms. Distressing media exposure was associated with both outcomes. Sleep duration and home quarantine duration partially mediated the associations between crisis-related exposure and PTSD and depressive symptoms. These findings highlight the importance of media regulation, sleep promotion, and psychological support during future public health emergencies.
